Mix of sun and clouds, but slightly warmer. Highs near 70.

    (Published Sunday, May 28, 2017)

There are patches of clouds across New England today that could generate a sprinkle or shower, there are also some places that are totally sunny. We'll call it a mix of sun and clouds with a high temperature in the 70s, cooler at the shore. Wind is light and variable with local sea-breezes.

An upper-level low pressure system with a combined weather front coming in from the southwest will bring rain to our doorstep late tonight. After mild and dry evening temperatures we'll cool off to the 50s by sunrise tomorrow.

Rain develops first west of the Connecticut River early in the day, advancing to the east coast by mid day and into Maine for the afternoon. Temperatures near 60 in the morning will cool through the 50s and even into the upper 40s in the hilly areas of New England. Wind from the east may gust past 20 miles per hour at the shore.

Rainfall amounts of .25" to .75" are expected. Rain should exit tomorrow evening, with partial clearing and patchy fog Tuesday morning.

It's a tough call for Tuesday with a lot of low level moisture left around, so if it stays cloudy we may only be in the lower 60s but where the sun comes out it could be well into the 70s. Most of the day looks dry but there's a threat for thunderstorms in the western New England by late in the day.

Much like we have seen lately, an upper-level low pressure system stalls nearby most of the week, but as we move into June it should not be too cold.

Temperatures should make the 70s most of the week, but with that instability we have the threat for a shower or a thunderstorm just about each afternoon. Most of the time should be dry though.

By next weekend it's a close call as another low pressure system may try and approach from the southwest. Right now we will lean optimistic with mostly dry weather and temperatures holding in the 70s.
