After hours of negotiating with a man who barricaded himself in a Reading, Massachusetts home, police were able to arrest the suspect.

Jeffrey Logan, 38, was arrested early Wednesday for allegedly firing a shot into the air near a teenager who was shoveling. Authorities were notified of the gunshot at about 11:45 p.m.

Shawn Ferris, who owns the Woburn Street apartment building where the incident took place, says his godson was shoveling the walkway at the time.

"He pulled out a gun, held it up in the air and fired it," Ferris said.

Logan allegedly told the teen he "better not snitch."

Police responded to the apartment building, where Logan refused to leave his home for several hours overnight.

Out of caution, authorities evacuated other residents from the building and established a perimeter. A SWAT team responded to the incident and negotiators attempted to get in contact with Logan multiple times.

Just before 3 a.m., SWAT members entered the unit the suspect was in and were able to arrest him. Officers recovered a silver semi-automatic handgun in the unit, Reading police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Logan was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, intimidation, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and other charges.
