An investigation into the Massachusetts man facing charges in the death of a 13-year-old girl left at a Lawrence hospital in May could yield additional charges involving more victims, a North Andover newspaper reported.
Carlos Rivera, 47, is being held without bail following his indictment Friday in Salem Superior Court on seven charges, including one count of aggravated rape of a child, two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, one count of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and two counts of distribution of cocaine to a minor.
Chloe Ricard, of Amesbury, was left at Lawrence General Hospital on May 20 and died shortly after her arrival, according to prosecutors.
Rivera, of Lawrence, was arrested five days later after officials reviewed surveillance footage and spent days investigating the mystery of Ricard's death.
On Friday, a prosecutor with the Essex County District Attorney's Office asked for potential evidence in the case to be kept secret, saying that it could impact the ongoing investigation, according to the Eagle Tribune.
The request of the protective order from Assistant District Attorney Jessica Strasnick means that the names of additional victims and information "are still being presented to the grand jury."
According to the Eagle Tribune, Rivera's attorney did not object to the protective order.
In June, the district attorney's office said Rivera sexually assaulted and gave cocaine to teenage girls. The prosecutors said he also indecently assaulted a 16-year-old girl at an earlier date.
Rivera is due back in court for a dangerousness hearing Sept. 27.
