Man Accused of Throwing Dog Over Wareham, Mass. Bridge Charged for Animal Cruelty

Surveillance video shows a man toss his dog off an Onset Avenue bridge in Wareham and then jump off the ledge himself

The man accused of throwing a dog over a nearly 12-feet high bridge in Wareham has been identified and charged, according to police.

Kevin Ouellette, 51, an East Falmouth, Massachusetts resident, was charged with animal cruelty and larceny for the July 27 incident. Wareham police determined that the dog thrown from the bridge was taken from its owner and did not belong to the suspect.

Surveillance footage from a business near the Onset Avenue Bridge showed a man throw an American Staffordshire Terrier over the bridge and into the water below. Shortly after, the same man jumps from the ledge as well.

When questioned by a Natural Resources officer, Ouellette said he did this all the time and claimed that the dog "likes" it. The pooch was unharmed during the incident and ran to a nearby restaurant afterwards.

Residents in the area were outraged by the incident.

"It's awful; it makes us all so sad," Sarah Cecil, manager of the Stonebridge Bar and Grill said. The dog in the video ran to her restaurant after the ordeal.

"By the time I came back in, the dog had gone up these stairs here and came in behind the bar," she said.

It is unclear if Ouellette has an attorney.
