$2M bail for man charged in September shooting that injured 5 in Dorchester

Micah Ennis is charged with five counts of armed assault to murder, as well as unlawful firearm possession

The second man arrested in connection with a violent shooting last year in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood is due in court Thursday.

Micah Ennis, 25, was arrested in Roxbury on Wednesday, Boston police said.

He's accused of opening fire at a group of people hosting a barbeque at a housing complex on Ames Street on Sept. 17. Five people were shot, including two children were playing outside their home when they were shot.

A 15-year-old girl was struck in the head. She survived, but prosecutors said Thursday that she cannot walk or talk and is unlikely to make any further recovery.

The girl's 5-year-old brother was also among the victims.

Ennis is charged with five counts of armed assault to murder, as well as unlawful firearm possession. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court Thursday.

Prosecutors requested a $2 million cash bail, citing the nature of the crime, a prior record and saying that Ennis had fled arrest. His attorney pushed back on that, saying that her client has lived and worked in Worcester for several years and that Boston police did not make a sufficient effort to look for him. She requested a bail with conditions in an amount that was more affordable for the family.

The judge ultimately set bail at $2 million.

Another man, Gianni Johnson of Dorchester was arrested on similar charges days after the shooting. He also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a machine gun.
