Body Found in Canton Pond After Search for Missing Boater

A body was recovered at about 2 a.m. Thursday after dive teams searched for a boater who was reported missing Wednesday in Canton, Massachusetts.

At around 8 p.m., a woman called 911 to report a swimmer struggling and a boat drifting away at a reservoir pond. Multiple units responded to the call and the search continued overnight.

The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, Dive Team and Troop H patrols assisted Canton police in the search. The helicopters were later cleared from the scene due to the fog.

"It’s an extraordinary effort when you’re looking for somebody in the water," Canton Fire Chief Charles Doody said.

Authorities were looking for a male in his 20s who was fishing; fishing gear was found in his boat.

If you know someone who was fishing in this area and has not returned, please call the local authorities at 781-828-1212.
