A former Miami Dolphins player who was ordered into custody during a family court hearing in Miami on Tuesday injured two officers when he tried to flee, authorities said.

Dimitri Patterson, 34, was at the Lawson E. Thomas Court Center when the judge ordered he be taken into custody, Miami-Dade Police said.

As Patterson tried to run out a door, he tackled a female officer, who fell and hit her head, police said. Another female officer suffered a hand injury before Patterson was taken into custody, police said.

Both officers were taken to a local hospital but later released.

Patterson is expected to appear in felony bond court Wednesday morning for Tuesday's incident before he appears at a sentencing hearing at a later date for his initial charge of felony child abuse.

Patterson spent nine years as a cornerback with six NFL teams, including the New York Jets, Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Dolphins.

Patterson was released by the Jets in 2014 after he allegedly left the team for two days and skipped a preseason game.

Patterson was charged with felony child abuse in 2015 after an altercation with his former girlfriend in Aventura ended with his 1-year-old son being bruised, ESPN reported
