Pitcher Carson Smith of the Boston Red Sox will undergo Tommy John surgery.
The procedure on the right-hander's right elbow will be performed Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
Dr. David Altcheck will perform the ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction.
The reliever will be out for the rest of the season, according to necn sister station CSN.
Smith injured his elbow during Spring Training and was able to pitch in only three regular-season games after being activated on May 3.
