After a soggy Thursday, we will see a lull in the rain in southern New England for a brief time in the evening before the next round of downpours with some embedded thunderstorms slide in from the south. Also, overnight, astronomically high tides will cause some minor coastal flooding as high tide crests just before midnight, so be mindful if any of your travels or if your neighborhood near the coast is susceptible to flooding.

As for the rain, similar to earlier Thursday, plumes of moisture will shift in from the south and continue to spread northward through the overnight with the heaviest downpours expected between midnight to 3 a.m. Friday for southern New England, northern New England into the afternoon hours, especially along the coastline. The rain will become scattered through the late afternoon Friday for southern New England with drier conditions for Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The system continues to pull off the coastline through Friday, with a few lingering downpours still hanging on in Maine, otherwise drying out for the rest of New England to start off the holiday weekend. Saturday brings a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures into the low to mid 60s with a developing sea breeze that could keep temperatures cooler along the coast.

Sunday is another day with a mix of sun and clouds with more clouds sliding in by the evening ahead of our next system that will bring spotty showers late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

Memorial Day does not look like a washout by any means, but we will see a few spotty showers that we will have to dodge during our ceremonies with high temperatures into the lower 60s.

Looking ahead to the rest of the 10-day forecast, highs reach into the lower 70s as we approach the first day of June.
