The storms that caused much damage in Vermont Tuesday diminished overnight, but will fire up again, further south and east on Wednesday.

This marks day four in our current heat wave for portions and southern and eastern New England. It's a heat-breaking front that arrived in Vermont Tuesday night and is only slowly progressing to the southeast.

We have several hours of hot, humid sunshine before a new band of showers and thunderstorms develop from southern Maine across southern New Hampshire to Massachusetts and Connecticut by 1 p.m. and then spreads to the southeast. Once again, we have the threat for damaging wind in any thunderstorms, along with torrential downpours and frequent lightning.

High temperatures will be in the 80s in western and northern New England, to lower 90s and southern and eastern New England. Wind from the southwest will generally be 10 to 20 miles an hour, but can can gust past 55 miles an hour in thunderstorms.

Wednesday night is still sticky with showers and thunderstorms slowly diminishing. Low temperatures will be in the 60s to low 70s and southern and eastern New England, cooler and less humid to the west and north. The front is still along the coast from Maine to Cape Cod, with a few more showers or thunderstorms in eastern most New England Thursday.

Otherwise, decreasing humidity with sunshine will be emerging from northwest to southeast, high temperature in the 80s with lower humidity.

High pressure from Canada brings a beautiful Friday with lower humidity and temperatures in the low 80s. A weak front from Canada approaches Saturday, with a few showers or thunderstorms possible in the afternoon, high temperature in the 80s to 90 degrees.
