2 Charged in Sexual Assault of Disabled Woman

Massachusetts State Police arrested a man and a woman on Tuesday in connection with the sexual assault of a woman with disabilities.

John R. Leone Jr., 65, of Methuen, is charged with three counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person with a disability. Nancy Barr, 54, of Haverhill, is charged with assault and battery on a disabled person.

State police said that Barr, a caretaker of the victim, allowed the assaults to be committed.

The victim is an adult woman. The investigation began after allegations of rape were reported to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission.

Both Leone and Barr were arraigned Wednesday, where they were ordered held without bail pending a Jan. 2 dangerousness hearing.
