Girl, 7, hit by SUV in Gloucester

Investigators believe the girl ran out into the road and was hit by the vehicle

A child was hit by an SUV in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on Saturday morning, according to local authorities.

Gloucester police responded to Warner Street near Trask Street at around 11:30 a.m. When the officers arrived, they found a 7-year-old girl who had been struck by a 2010 Ford Escape, according to authorities.

Investigators believe the girl ran out into the road and was hit by the vehicle. Police said the girl was injured but was conscious and alert.

She was flown to Boston on a medical helicopter, according to police.

Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating.

The crash is under investigation.
