FIRST ALERT: Strong Storms, Heat and Humidity Begin Wednesday

We have declared a few First Alert days in our 10-day forecast. The first day is Wednesday with the strong storms, heat and humidity leading to "feels like" temperatures in the mid-90s.

Then Friday, Saturday and Sunday we soar to the 90s with heat index values around 100 degrees.

First Alert Day Wednesday:

Morning showers will be settled across northern New England and downpours and thunderstorms will continue throughout the afternoon. Southern New England will see sunshine, a south wind, and surging temperatures and humidity. Highs will be in the 90s with heat index values in the mid-90s.

A slow moving frontal boundary sinks south during the afternoon and the remnants from Barry will enhance our rainfall potential. There is a chance for a strong or severe storm with damaging wind gusts across southern New England through sunset.

Thursday Rain:

The frontal boundary stalls near the south coast, so tropical downpours continue across southern New England for the first half of the day with highs in the 70s, and low clouds. Northern New England will have a pleasant forecast on Thursday with sunshine and low humidity.

The heavy rain may bring 1-3 inches of quick accumulation to Boston, Hartford, and Providence Thursday morning, lingering showers in the afternoon south and east.

First Alert Friday through Sunday:

Heat and humidity will take over Friday through at least Sunday. A heat wave is expected for most of New England (3 or more days in a row of 90 degrees or higher). Low 90s are likely Friday and Sunday.

Saturday will be the hottest day as our temperatures approach 100 degrees! Heat index values will be around 105 degrees. We make a run at the record high in Boston and in Worcester on Saturday, which is 99 set in 1991 for both cities. Make plans now to visit a cooling center during this brutal heat stretch if you don't have air conditioning.

Overnight temperatures will stay in the 70s to low 80s with no relief from the heat until next week.

10-Day Outlook:

A cold front will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms, but the front is slower then we may hit 90 again. Cooler temperatures are in the forecast next week with low to mid-80s.
