Officials said they received a call of a motor vehicle accident shortly after 1 a.m. near the area of 5341 Washington St. There, they located a car with severe damage to the front and a disabled snow plow.

The fatal victim is believed to have hit the back of the plow with his car, causing the snow plow to spin around and rip the sander off the back of the vehicle.

Reconstruction experts remained at the scene overnight to investigate the incident.

The crash happened in front of an insurance agency. Owner Bob McNeil said his son heard the crash happen and called him in the middle of the night.

"It's a little bit close to home. It's a little bit different than seeing it on the news," said McNeil. "There have been accidents where cars right out here have hit the fire hydrant and what not, but this is the worst one that I can recall."

As a result of the crash, the southbound lanes of Washington Street near the West Roxbury and Dedham border were closed for several hours. As of 6:30 a.m., the lanes were reopened.

Both vehicles were towed away from the scene.

Officials did not release the names of the victims.

    The investigation is ongoing.
