Man Struck by Police Cruiser in Fairhaven, Suffers Critical Injuries

The man was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he remains in critical condition

A pedestrian was seriously injured in Fairhaven, Massachusetts Tuesday night after being struck by a police cruiser, officials said.

According to the Bristol County district attorney's office, an officer was driving a police SUV west on Route 6 when it struck the 32-year-old man just west of a 7-Eleven store.

The Fairhaven police and fire departments responded to the crash just before 11 p.m.

According to police, the officer driving the cruiser immediately stopped and called for help.

The man, whose last known address was in South Weymouth, was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He was later taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he remains in critical condition.

The Massachusetts State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney’s office are leading the investigation. 

Authorities did not release the name of the victim, saying his family members had not been contacted.
