A woman reported her husband was swimming when he got tired and was swept away by a fast current

The body of a 24-year-old swimmer who went missing Sunday evening in Springfield, Massachusetts, was found the following morning, authorities said.

Police responded to a woman's 911 call just before 5:45 p.m. to the Indian Leap area of the Chicopee River for a report of a missing man.

The woman reported her husband was swimming when he got tired and was swept into the middle of the river by a fast current where he was last seen before going under.

Crews searched through the evening and continued Monday, when they found a body around 11:40 a.m.

The victim was publicly identified Tuesday as Jaime Lopez of Springfield. The office of Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni confirmed he drowned.
