Facebook Post May Be Key to Solving Attempted Home Burglary

Fiona Burns and her husband knew something wasn’t quite right when they found their back patio gate open, so they took a look at their surveillance cameras.

“I was petrified,” said Burns.

They were stunned by what they saw: a stranger showing up at their front door in South Boston Friday evening.

At first he rings the bell then takes a look at the mail and even stares directly into the security camera.

He then made his way to the back patio, where he tried to jimmy open the sliding door.

“I got home four minutes later,” said Burns. “I don’t know what his intent was, he didn’t have a bag like he was going to steal anything big, was he looking for drugs? I have no idea.”

In one last attempt to get in, the suspect even picked up a rock and threw it at the glass door.

But it just left a tiny scratch.

And he took off.

Fiona and her husband posted the video on the Southie Community Bulletin Board on Facebook hoping to identify the man in the video.

Already, someone commented that she knows who it is.

“Someone messaged my husband this morning saying they recognize his face,” said Burns. “Hopefully it is the right guy and they’re able to capture him.”

Neighbors are surprised by the attempted break-in.

“Overall it’s a pretty safe neighborhood,” said Ryan Acone. “Probably one of the best in Boston in my opinion, safety has not been an issue for me.”

“It’s not something I really worry about,” said Heather Johnson. “I feel pretty safe here.”

The woman who posted on Facebook that she knows the suspect says she has forwarded his name to Boston Police.
