Police Identify Teen Killed in Dorchester Officer-Involved Shooting

Police have identified the second suspect connected to the fatal police-involved shooting as 21-year-old Ernest Watkins

Boston Police have identified the teenager who was killed Monday in an officer-involved shooting.

Authorities said Wednesday that 19-year-old Jaymil Ellerbe of Dorchester was fatally wounded after allegedly firing a gun at two officers. A second suspect, 21-year-old Ernest Watkins, also of Dorchester, was arrested Wednesday.

Police responded to reported gunfire near Geneva Avenue and Park Street in Dorchester. They say Watkins and Ellerbe were at the scene of the shooting and fled the area after police arrived. Officers on bicycles chased after the two men, who ran separate ways.

Watkins allegedly ran up Mather Street while Ellerbe, who police said was seen carrying a gun, ran toward the area of 10 Penhallow St. Police said the unnamed man fired at the officers, which prompted them to return fire. He died at the scene.

Officers investigating the shooting searched for Watkins until his Tuesday arrest, police said. He was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Police said Watkins is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
