A new study by WalletHub ranked four New England states in the top ten best states for women.
The study based its findings on 24 "key indicators of living standards for women," and separated individual rankings into "economic and social well-being" and "health and safety."
Massachusetts nearly topped the list, coming in overall at No. 2. Connecticut was at No. 6. Maine came in next at No. 7, and Vermont finished off the top ranks at No. 7.
Rhode Island and New Hampshire both ranked within the top 20.
The study contained other interesting insights about New England states.
- New Hampshire was found to have the lowest percentage of women in poverty.
- Maine had the fourth lowest median earnings for women.
- Vermont had the fourth lowest percentage of businesses owned by women.
- Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont made up four of the top five states with the lowest number of female homicides.
Overall, the study found that blue states were more "women-friendly" than red states.
