NH AG: Use of Force Justified in Shooting Death of Estranged Husband

The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office says a woman was justified in her use of deadly force in the fatal shooting of her estranged husband in February.

The office released a report Wednesday in the case of 36-year-old Nicole Carney, of Stoddard, in the shooting death of 44-year-old Michael Carney.

The report said Nicole Carney was separated from her husband and didn't want him to know where she and her 5-year-old daughter lived. She said he had threatened to kill her in the past and had assaulted her. She called police when he showed up, but then believed he had left. He showed up again, approached her, and she used a rifle to shoot him twice, killing him.

The report concludes that based on all the facts and circumstances, Nicole Carney was justified in her use of deadly force on Feb. 9.
