Peet's Coffee & Tea in Newton Centre Is Closing

by Marc Hurwitz

A California-based coffee roaster and retailer with a handful of locations in the Greater Boston area is getting ready to shut down one of its shops.

According to an article in the Newton TAB, Peet's Coffee & Tea in Newton Centre is closing on July 13 after nearly 20 years in business, with reps telling building owner Fred Margolis that even though they had approximately a year and a half left on the lease, they could not afford to stay open as the Beacon Street store was losing money. It is not yet known what might move into the space, and rumors of a bank going in are premature, as Margolis says that no decision has been made on the space as of yet.

Peet's Coffee & Tea has other locations in Boston (Back Bay and North End), Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, Lexington, and Wellesley.

The address for this soon-to-close coffee shop in Newton Centre is: Peet's Coffee & Tea, 776 Beacon Street, Newton Centre, MA, 02459. The website for Peet's is at http://www.peets.com/
