A 22-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly shot his mom and her friend inside a Lexington, Massachusetts, home Friday evening.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lexington Chief of Police Michael McLean announced Saturday that Brent Justice Roman-Finnagan was in custody in connection with the double shooting that occurred a day earlier on Keeler Farm Way.

Information was limited Friday, with the district attorney and Lexington police only confirming at the time that they were investigating the shooting and that the involved parties, who are known to each other, were taken to the hospital.

On Saturday, officials said Lexington police received a 911 call from Roman-Finnagan's mother around 4:46 p.m. Friday, reporting that her son had shot her and her friend.

Responding officers arrived at the home and arrested Roman-Finnagan without incident.

The two women were taken to an area hospital where they are in stable condition, officials said. The two victims names were not released, but officials identified the mom as a 57-year-old Lexington woman and her friend as a 55-year-old Haverhill woman.

Roman-Finnagan was also taken to a hospital Friday night for a mental health evaluation but was later released back into police custody where he'll stay pending his arraignment Monday in Concord District Court.

The two people involved do know each other and were taken to the hospital.

According to officials, a preliminary investigation revealed that Roman-Finnagan illegally bought a gun and then kept it in his room inside the home he lived at with his mother. NBC10 Boston learned the house is a rental owned by the Lexington Housing Assistance Board.

Officials allege that while Roman-Finnagan was inside the home with his mom and her friend on Friday evening, he grabbed the gun from his room and shot both women, injuring them. A motive has not been released in the case.

Roman-Finnagan was charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of assault and battery as a result of discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. It wasn't immediately clear if he had obtained an attorney.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
