Where Celtics stand in NBA Cup after crucial win over Wizards

Abby Chin catches up with Jaylen Brown in an exclusive 1-on-1 interview following the Celtics’ 108-96 win over the Wizards in NBA Cup group play action.

The Boston Celtics' NBA Cup hopes are still alive after Friday night's hard-fought victory over the Washington Wizards.

They improved to 2-1 in the group stage with their 108-96 win, which boosted their point differential to +14. Point differential is a tiebreaker in the tournament along with head-to-head matchups.

Shortly after the C's triumph, the East Group C-leading Atlanta Hawks dropped to 2-1 with their 136-122 loss to the Chicago Bulls. That gives Boston a chance to overtake Atlanta for the top spot if it beats Chicago and the Hawks fall to the Cleveland Cavaliers in their final group stage games next Friday.

If Atlanta defeats Cleveland, it will earn the tiebreaker because of its victory over Boston in the NBA Cup opener. The Celtics can advance to the knockout stage, however, even if the Hawks win the group.

Jaylen Brown is the only C's player in double figures with 18 points. Luke Kornet has six points and six rebounds off the bench.

The only thing keeping Boston in this game is that the Wizards haven't been much better offensively. They're 24-for-54, including just 5-of-20 from deep. Former C's guard Malcolm Brogdon leads Washington with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Who won parade day? Celtics share favorite memories from rolling rally

Who won parade day? Celtics share favorite memories from rolling rally

Joe Mazzulla, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and more share their favorite moments and memories from the team’s time on the duck boats celebrating their 2024 NBA championship.

The Boston Celtics took their world victory tour to the nation’s capital Thursday for a fancy rendezvous with President Biden on the White House’s South Lawn. But, let’s be honest: Whether it’s Abu Dhabi, Washington, D.C. or any spot in between, the Celtics’ title celebration is unlikely to get any better than how it started with a rolling rally through downtown Boston.

Five months ago, it wasn’t about suits and ties. It was shorts and playful T-shirts as the Celtics navigated their way through the 1 million fans that lined the streets of Boston.

You remember all the high points, right? Joe Mazzulla exiting his boat to celebrate with fans on the street. Kristaps Porzingis sporting a WWE championship belt. Sam Hauser barfing in a cooler.

When the Celtics reconvened in September for the start of their title defense, we asked all the returning players whether they had the most fun on parade day.

Derrick White details best moments from Celtics' White House visit

The Celtics visited the White House to celebrate their 2024 NBA Title. Derrick White shares some of his favorite moments from the experience.

After winning the NBA Finals in June, the Boston Celtics got to visit the White House for the first time since last hoisting the trophy in 2008.

It was the first championship ring for almost all of the roster except Jrue Holiday, so the trip to the White House provided a unique moment for the team.

That included star guard Derrick White, who hadn't won an NBA title since joining the league in 2017 with the San Antonio Spurs.

White in an interview shared details of the visit, including teammates getting history lessons and seeing a president for the first time.

Boston Celtics visit White House for NBA championship celebration

Boston Celtics visit White House for NBA championship celebration

President Joe Biden honored the Boston Celtics months after they won the championship.

The NBA champion Boston Celtics' victory lap continued Thursday as the team visited the White House for the traditional celebration with the president.

President Joe Biden welcomed the team at the mansion's South Lawn to commemorate Boston's five-game victory over the Dallas Mavericks in June, calling the team among the deepest ever, and noting they "dominated Dallas at both ends of the floor."

"My Secret Service name is Celtic," Biden pointed out, adding, "everybody behind me is Irish in their heart."

After he and Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck spoke, Biden walked a ceremonial basketball the team presented him down to the gathered crowd and passed it to Sen. Ed Markey, before giving it a couple of bounces.
