Weather Forecast: Showers Before Breaks of Sun

Tuesday night: Showers to rain. Temperatures hold around 40. Wednesday: Early showers to some breaks of sun, becoming windy. Highs in the 40s.

    (Published Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019)

Temperatures have been stuck below freezing across Worcester County—towards the Merrimack Valley and into New Hampshire all day. Freezing drizzle or freezing fog will be an issue tonight.

An additional light wintry mix moves through overnight. Light accumulations of a coating to 1 inch of a snow/ice mix will be possible.

Between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., a potent line of heavy rain, with a possible thunderstorm, will move through. In Boston and across southeastern Massachusetts, our temperatures stay in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Outside Interstate 495, that line will be in the form of a sleet and snow mix. Snow showers reemerge across southern New Hampshire into northern Massachusetts Wednesday afternoon with a westerly wind as a cold front pushes south.

We dry off late Wednesday afternoon and it turns windy. Temperatures still make it into the upper 30s and low 40s with gradual clearing. Snow lingers across the Berkshires, and across the mountains in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, producing several inches of accumulation through Thursday.

Colder temperatures take over for Thursday, but especially by Friday. Highs at the end of the week will only be in the 20s, overnight lows in the teens (single digits in the suburbs).

Sunday into Monday we are watching a potential coastal storm. The track, for now, looks to stay south, but it is still worth watching.
