Heavy Rain for All; High Winds, Snow for Some

Most areas in southern New England have switched from freezing rain to rain. North of the Lakes Region in New Hampshire and away from the coast in Maine we are still seeing some freezing rain and snow.

The rain will turn steady and locally heavy this afternoon. Unfortunately, the heaviest rain will coincide with the evening commute. There will likely be some minor urban flooding on the highways. Since the sunset is before the evening commute, take it slow…it will be difficult to see some of the larger puddles. If you live in southern New England you might hear a rumble of thunder.

Closer to the coast winds will be a concern. A wind advisory has now been issued for the Cape and Islands. Winds may gust to 50 MPH, which will be enough to cause some isolated power outages. Winds will diminish after midnight.

After a break in the rain Wednesday morning, Round 2 will arrive during the early afternoon. The timing of this round will likely slow down the Wednesday evening commute.
