1 Injured in Road Rage Fistfight on I-93 in Andover

A man was injured in a road rage fistfight on Interstate 93 in Andover, Massachusetts on Monday.

State police said they received numerous reports around 5:20 p.m. Monday about a fistfight taking place between two men in the breakdown of I-93 south, just north of Exit 42.

By the time they arrived, the two men had left the area.

A short time later, Tewksbury police found one of the men at Shawsheen and East streets in their town. The man, a 36-year-old from Billerica, had been injured in the brawl and was taken to Lowell Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The investigation into the identity of the other man is ongoing, police said. He was reportedly wearing a blue shirt, khaki cargo pants and construction boots. He was driving a blue or black Mazda CX-5 at the time of the incident.

"We would like to remind the public that if someone is acting aggressively towards you on the roadway, move away from the aggressor and slow down," state police said in a statement. "This will often times be enough to diffuse the situation. If they continue to act aggressively towards you, please dial 911 and report the incident. Most importantly, never get out of your vehicle to confront an aggressive driver."

Anyone with any information about the fight is asked to contact state police at 978-475-3800.

Monday's incident is the latest in a series of recent violent road rage incidents on Massachusetts roadways.

Earlier this month, two women were caught on video fighting in the middle of Route 128 in Danvers. Both were ultimately summoned to court for assault and battery and disorderly conduct.

And back in January, two men were charged after a wild road rage confrontation that NBC10 Boston caught on camera, showing an SUV driving about two or three miles on the Massachusetts Turnpike at speeds up to 70 mph with a man on the hood.
