A man died Tuesday in an early morning fire at a home in Brockton, Massachusetts, fire officials said.
The blaze was reported at a home on Harvard Street, where the 3-story wood-framed building caught fire. About 20 people were displaced due to other issues in the 16-unit building, fire crews said.
Deputy Fire Chief Scott Albanese said concerns with the building's electrical system is preventing tenants from returning home. He said firefighters have previously responded to the building for potential code violations.
The fire is believed to have started on the first floor. Details on what caused the blaze were not immediately clear.
Authorities did not release the victim’s name. The Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.
The investigation is ongoing.
