Fire Burns Through Home in Southbridge

Investigators are looking into whether lightning caused a three-alarm fire on Marcy Street in Southbridge.

The call came in around 6:30 Wednesday night, when the storms rolled through.

Smoke could be seen coming from the third floor of the multi family home.

Tenants were inside at the time, but were able to make it out safely.

Neighbors believe lightning stuck an air conditioner.

“We did have a very strong thunderstorm come through this area just like everybody else, we’re not sure if that is a contributing factor to this fire, but we will be doing the investigation looking at all causes,” said Southbridge Fire Chief Paul Normandin.

No firefighters were hurt.

Firefighters were attempting to locate a cat that was inside the home.
