Cold high pressure brings us a quiet morning, then pushes off with a warm front bringing snow and rain Friday night.
The windy storm of the last few days has finally released and now we have fading sunshine with temperatures climbing out of the 20s into the 40s Friday as clouds thicken and lower.
By mid-afternoon, some light rain and elevation snow develops in western Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and southern Vermont. This wintry mix advances to the east and north as the sun goes down. Wind from the east will become more southerly as the day goes on, gradually increasing in speed once again to 15 to 20 mph late in the day.
A weak wave of low pressure on a warm front will travel across northern New England Friday night, with a wintry mix in northern New England. This includes a few inches of snow in the mountains, changing to rain, and a general light rain across central and southern New England, temperatures holding in the 30s to low 40s.
The plan for Saturday is for the front to keep on moving. Showers end early Saturday morning, with increasing sunshine.
We are expecting a mostly sunny afternoon, except for in the mountains, high temperature generally in the 60s, to perhaps the low 70s in parts of central and western New England.
Clouds may hang tough at the Canadian border and in much of northern Maine, where it will be cooler. A weak cold front will settle from north to south Saturday night, but it should be mostly dry, cooling into the 30s for low temperatures.

Sunday also looks bright with a good amount of sunshine. High temperatures will perhaps only be in the 40s near the seashore, but still in the 50s to low 60s, inland. It looks like a very nice weekend.
The weather map is more complicated early next week, with waves of low pressure coming back at us from the southwest. That means another round of cooler precipitation. Perhaps some more mountain snow, and lower elevation rain with temperature mostly in the 40s Monday.
The front then stalls right over New England for Tuesday. We could be cool north, brighter and warmer south. It’s a low confidence forecast, but it looks like opening day at Fenway Park could be mild and dry, with temperatures in the 50s during the day, cooling to the 40s at night.
