Man Arrested for Threatening Workers With Pickaxe

Police say David Peterson was yelling things at the crew that made no sense during his arrest.

A Worcester, Massachusetts, man accused of threatening construction workers with a pickaxe was arrested Monday morning, according to police.

Worcester Police say David Peterson, 45, of 52 William St., had previously threatened workers with a hammer and spray-painted messages like “no dig” and “stay away” on the sidewalks outside his home.

On Monday around 11:15 a.m., a worker was operating a jackhammer near Peterson’s home when an officer noticed that worker running across the street. Peterson was yelling at the worker and was holding a pickaxe above his head. He struck it on the sidewalk, causing a piece of asphalt to fly into the air.

The officer ordered Peterson to drop the axe. Peterson dropped the axe on the second command to do so.

Police say that Peterson was yelling things at the crew that made no sense during his arrest.

Peterson was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace. He was released on $40 cash bail.
