Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright has been suspended 15 games for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy.
Wright, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, will begin serving his suspension when he returns to the active roster. He remains eligible to participate in all Spring Training activities prior to Opening Day.
Wright has agreed not to appeal the discipline.
"My office has completed its investigation into the events leading up to Steven Wright's arrest on the evening of December 8, 2017," Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement issued Friday. "Mr. Wright cooperated with the investigation. While it is clear that Mr. Wright regrets what transpired that evening, takes full responsibility for his actions, and has committed himself to the treatment and counseling components of the Policy, I have concluded that Mr. Wright's conduct on December 8th violated the Policy and warrants discipline.
Wright has also agreed to speak to other players about what he has learned, and to donate time and money to local organizations aimed at the prevention of domestic violence and the treatment of victims.
The Red Sox issued a statement saying they support the disciplinary measures imposed by the commissioner.
"While we are disappointed that this incident occurred, we are encouraged that Steven is taking meaningful steps to learn from this unfortunate incident."

Wright, 33, was arrested in December at his Tennessee home following an incident involving his wife. He was charged with domestic assault and preventing a 911 call. Those charges are expected to be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for a year.
Wright is one of two active knuckleball pitchers currently in the MLB. He has been with the Red Sox since his major league debut in 2013.
