School Bus Driver Charged With Second OUI

A school bus driver was charged with his second OUI after being stopped with five children on board Friday evening in Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Police arrested 62-year-old Everett Redmond Jr. of Brewster after a state trooper stopped him in a Burger King parking lot off U.S. Route 6 westbound. Just before 6:30 p.m., a student's mother called police and said the driver was moving erratically.

Redmond was driving five students of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.

In addition to his second OUI offense, Redmond was charged with child endangerment. He was arraigned Monday.

Cape Destinations Bus later released a statement confirming that the motorist was fired from the company.

"The employee in question was terminated on Saturday, May 16 for conduct that violated our company policies. This conduct was observed by passengers on the bus, and acknowledged by the employee himself during interviews with police. We applaud the student passenger who took immediate action upon recognizing that something was wrong during the bus trip, and are grateful to the parent who quickly notified police.”
