Elevator Worker Dies in Industrial Accident at TripAdvisor Headquarters in Needham, Massachusetts

No TripAdvisor employees were involved or injured in the incident, police said

Authorities said Tuesday an elevator company worker died at the TripAdvisor headquarters in Needham, Massachusetts, in an industrial accident.

Needham Police Chief John Schlittler told reporters that an employee of Otis Elevator Co. died at the TripAdvisor building at 400 1st Ave. as a result of an industrial accident. Emergency crews responded to the call around 8:30 a.m.

The worker was identifed as 52-year-old James Jacobs, according to Needham police.

No TripAdvisor employees were involved or injured in the incident, Schlittler said.

"Our thoughts are with the worker’s family and colleagues during this time," TripAdvisor said in a statement.

Otis said in a statement that it was "deeply saddened to learn that we lost a team member at a jobsite this morning."

Officials earlier said they were responding to the building for a "technical rescue."

The incident remains under investigation by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as state and local police.
