Baby, Mother Recovering Following Deadly Worcester House Fire

The deadly four-alarm fire claimed the life of 39-year-old Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard

The baby and mother who were trapped on the third floor of a burning building in Worcester, Massachusetts, where a firefighter died Wednesday are recovering, according to a city spokesperson.

The mother, whose identity has not been released, was hospitalized after the four-alarm blaze. The infant is OK but under observation, according to Worcester spokesman Michael Vigneux.

The Wednesday morning fire claimed the life of 39-year-old Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard, who was helping fellow firefighters escape the home after they responded to a report of a resident and a baby stuck on the third floor.

It is unclear if the mother and child were rescued or if they escaped the danger on their own, Vigneux said.

Menard and three other firefighters were hospitalized in the blaze that displaced up to 15 people.
