The city of Boston is in the historic spotlight this weekend.

If you can believe it, Saturday marks the 250th anniversary of the famous Boston Tea Party, and the city is holding several events to mark the protest.

Saturday will mark 250 years since the Boston Tea Party. Here's what Boston is doing to celebrate.

Whether it's reenactors or elected officials, Boston is gearing up for an iconic celebration like no other.

"The Boston Tea Party, as you know, was the first historical milestone leading up to the American Revolution," said Rosie Rios, chair of America250, the organization behind a weekend packed full of events that begin on Saturday.

The historical group — the first of its kind in the United States — is sharing their original artifacts from the night of Dec. 16, 1773. Among the artifacts is an original bottle of tea from the Boston Tea Party.

Reenactments of the event, how the news was told, a march to the Boston Harborwalk and even a meet and greet with Tea Party descendants are some of the events taking place this weekend.

However, organizers hope the true meaning of the event is not lost through all the fun.

This December will mark the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, one of the most influential events in American history. The anniversary will be marked in a 'revolutionary' way. Evan O'Brien, Creative Director of Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, explains what people can expect.

"It's a reminder for all of us, not just here in the U.S. but all over the world, that democracy is action, doing what's right no matter the odds for our friends, our future," said Mayor Michelle Wu.
