MBTA Commuters Advised to Plan Ahead Due to Power Outages

Officials with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Keolis Commuter Services were urging commuters to plan ahead Friday morning in case of delays due to cleanup from the nor'easter.

The storm left more than a foot of heavy snow in several communities and downed tree limbs and power lines.

MBTA and Keolis crews have been working around the clock since Wednesday clearing the downed trees and limbs from tracks and deploying generators to locations that lost power.

Officials said about 100 downed trees were removed and 7 damaged train sets were repaired.

The MBTA said they will be operating on a regular schedule on the Red, Green, Orange, and Blue lines but were urging commuters to check the schedule for possible delays.

Customers on the Lowell Commuter Rail were also urged to plan ahead and expect delays of approximately 15 minutes due to storm cleanup.

On Thursday, a tree limb caused a train on the line to have a slow-speed derailment. No injuries were reported.

Just before 7 a.m, 10-15 delays were reported on the Red Line due to a disabled train at Park Street. The Commuter Rail also reported delays up to 20 minutes on their Framingham/Worcester, Haverhill, Needham, and Lowell lines.
