Officials announced that a Nashua, New Hampshire officer involved in a shooting late June that resulted in a man’s hospitalization was justified in his actions, according to Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald.
Nashua Police Department officers James Ciulla, Guido Marchionda and Kyle Crosson responded to a welfare check shortly after 10 p.m. on June 26 at a home on 106 Ledge Street after a resident posted a suicidal message on Facebook.
At the scene, 29-year-old Justin Contreras was found holding an unloaded revolver. Officer Ciulla opened fire on Contreras not knowing the firearm was unloaded.
Two of the three shots fired struck Contreras in the torso and lower right arm, according to MacDonald. Contreras was rushed to the hospital in Boston, where he recovered from the shooting.
