Partly Cloudy Before Temps Take a Tumble

It was a mostly cloudy, windy, and cool start as everyone carries on with their normal routine after an extended weekend from the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s a seasonably cool and quiet pattern to start the week, but midweek, temperatures will bounce back into the 50s, similar to what we saw last Saturday.

As for today, highs are expected to only reach into the lower 40s south, 30s north under partly cloudy skies. Any lingering snow showers in the Green Mountains of Vermont and in interior Maine will fade through the day.

Overnight tonight, under a starlit sky, temperatures will take a tumble. Expect a wintry chill felt across the region with lows in the mid to upper 20s south and east, low 20s to lower teens in far northern New England.

A dome of high pressure brings us the quiet weather both today and tomorrow, but that slides off the New England seaboard by late Tuesday. Speaking of Tuesday, expect very similar sky conditions, but with a different wind direction. The wind will be out of the south and less gusty, ushering in a slightly warmer air mass for tomorrow. That warm-up continues Wednesday as a warm front lifts in.

High temperatures on Wednesday stretch into the low to mid-50s south, 40s north — making for the warmest day on the 10-day forecast. A cold front will be sliding across the region Wednesday, so ahead of that front, expect a chance for rain and the possibility of a wintry mix early in northern New England — especially along the Canadian border. Otherwise, most locations will be dry and breezy under mostly sunny skies.

Thursday and Friday bring high temperatures back into the upper 40s with unsettled weather associated with a system that slides in from the Midwest by late Thursday into early Friday. This system will likely bring widespread rain for most locations and eventually changing over to a wintry mix to snow into the higher elevations of far northern New England as the system moves out and the colder air slides in early Friday morning.

We dry things out for the first half of the weekend and slightly cooler with highs into the lower 40s. Sunday brings the next chance for showers with the following work week looking very seasonable as we enter the first full week of December with highs into the mid to upper 40s.
