A man was arrested Monday morning after transit police say he attacked an MBTA employee in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Police responded to Alewife Station before 5:30 a.m. following a report that a female worker was assaulted. Officers arrested 29-year-old Charles Mills of Somerville after a brief struggle, according to authorities.
Witnesses tell police that Mills had been screaming profanities while sitting on a bench, and that when the woman walked by, he got up, unprovoked, and attacked her.
Mills allegedly threw the worker down to the platform and assaulted her while straddling her. After she freed herself, police say Mills began to throw punches at her.
Fellow employees came over and helped the victim. She was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital for evaluation. The MBTA confirmed shortly before 6 p.m. that she had been released.
Mills was expected to be arraigned Monday in Cambridge District Court. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
