Prepare for Showers and Some Thunderstorms Throughout Saturday

A powerful high-pressure system from Canada that brought our spectacular Friday is now pushing out to sea.

It was close enough last night to allow for a cool start once again today, several areas reported lows in the 30s, many of us in the 40s, but in Western New England in the wind has shifted from the south and we’ve already warmed up through the 50s to near 60 degrees. That warming trend continues through the day but a front is bringing in clouds and showers, and maybe thunderstorm, high temperature in the 70s today.

The pressure gradient between the high offshore and the front in New York is producing some strong gusts, past 45 miles per hour in the Champlain Valley, for most of us though it’s about 15-25 mph or so from the south.

The line of showers is moving from Northwest to Southeast from mid day through this evening. Then we may have a steadier period of rain and some thunder in southern New England well after dark overnight tonight. The day is not a washout, but we prepare for a few showers.

Rain may become heavier near the south coast late tonight early tomorrow, but it will be that should move offshore quickly, and we will have warmer air come in lighter wind from the west tomorrow, with plenty of sunshine a high temperature near 80 degrees.

And then a lot like what happened on Friday we may end up with a period of rain crossing central and southern New England late Sunday night and Monday, as another front moves into New England and slows down. Monday’s high temperature in the rain in the 60s, to the 70s farther north where it may be a dry day.

A new high-pressure system from Canada pushes in later Monday, bringing cooler weather with a return to sunshine Tuesday, temperatures start off in the 40s and 50s, and get to the 60s to near 70 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

A warming trend begins Wednesday, we may end up close to 80° later next week. We also have to watch the tropics, as tropical storm Humberto is bringing some wind, but mostly rain to the Bahamas, and will be very close to the Florida coast and then offshore near Georgia the next 48 hours. Most indications are that Humberto strengthens to a hurricane as it heads towards Bermuda mid week. Stay tuned to the latest in our first alert 10 day forecast.
