A cool pool of air continues to settle in and this is contributing to our cooler temperatures, cloud cover and sprinkle or shower chance tonight and tomorrow morning.
A northeast wind will help to carry some ocean moisture into the clouds that move inland. Drier air will return Wednesday afternoon and will stick around through the weekend.
Overnight lows will dip into the 30s across the North Country. This is where widespread frost is possible, and also a widespread freeze is likely across the crown of Maine. Lows will be in the 40s elsewhere to low 50s across southern New England. Highs will be even cooler in the low to mid-60s Wednesday afternoon as our clouds slowly erode away.
High pressure settles in to our northeast for the end of the week, helping to keep Hurricane Humberto far away from us. The southwesterly air flow will increase our highs to the 70s Friday, then to the low 80s for the weekend.
Beach weather is in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday, but beware of the rip current risk. Since Humberto passes southeast of us, we will see the highest swells Friday and continued rip currents through the weekend.
Our first day of fall is Monday and we will have highs in the low 80s. A shower or storm will move through thanks to a cold front Monday night. We cool to the mid-70s for the first few full days of the season.
