An investigation is underway after a suspect wanted for an early morning break-in at a store in Seekonk, Massachusetts, died in a gunfight with police.
Seekonk oplice responded to a notification from an alarm company of a break-in at a business on Route 6 shortly before 6:45 a.m., according to the Bristol District Attorney's Office.

According to the district attorney's office, responding officers saw the business had been broken into and gave a description of the suspect as he was running away. The suspect allegedly took off in a car down Route 6 before losing control of the car, causing the car to hit the curb and roll on its side off the road.
The suspect, who was armed with a rifle, began shooting at additional officers who arrived at the scene, according to the district attorney's office. Officers returned fire and the suspect died at the scene.

Nearby resident Joe Machado told NBC 10 Boston he heard gunshots this morning around 6:30 a.m.
"I've never seen anything like it and I've been living here a long time," Machado said.
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect or the official cause of death pending an autopsy.
