Video Shows Pickup Speed Past Boys in Maine School Crosswalk

The incident took place in front of Fryeburg's Molly Ockett Middle School on Route 302

Police need the public's help finding a blue pickup truck seen in surveillance video speeding by two students in a crosswalk outside a Maine middle school Tuesday.

The truck failed to stop for the boys, one of whom was standing in the crosswalk while the other appears to be on the curb. The vehicle speeds over the crosswalk sign, leaving it on its side in the street.

The boys were on their way to get lunch at a nearby market, according to Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin.

The incident took place in front of Fryeburg's Molly Ockett Middle School on Route 302 across from the town public safety building.

A bystander later reported the incident after hearing a bang caused by the truck hitting a sign in the crosswalk.

"They obviously showed clear intent to enter the crosswalk," Potvin said of the driver.

Police have since increased patrols in the area to watch for drivers who neglect to stop.

They're asking anyone with information about the incident to call 207-935-3323.

"We just want to know their side of the story and ask why they didn't stop," Potvin said.

If found, the driver may face a $180 fine.
