State and local officials are urging any unvaccinated residents in Connecticut to get a COVID-19 vaccine as cases of the virus increase.
Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz were joined by other state and local leaders to remind residents about the importance of getting the vaccine.
When asked about possible future mandates, Lamont said getting vaccinated can eliminate the need for that conversation.
"I know how tired everyone is of mandates and we don’t have to have that conversation if everyone just goes and gets vaccinated," he said.

At this point, Lamont said the state is not planning on putting any other restrictions in place. Decisions about schools will be made in a few weeks, he added.
This push for vaccinations comes as the state has seen an increase in coronavirus cases. The Delta variant is becoming more prominent and is the cause of 80% of new COVID-19 cases in the nation.
U.S. & World
There were more than 850 breakthrough cases in the state of Connecticut as of last week, according to the Dept. of Public Health. Of that number, only 150 have been hospitalized, but doctors say that the majority of those with COVID-19 are those that are unvaccinated.
