Experimental ‘Pop-Up’ Plaza Opens in Downtown Crossing
The City of Boston opened an experimental pop-up plaza in Downtown Crossing on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. The Transportation Department decided to widen the sidewalks and create a plaza at the intersection of Franklin Street and Arch Street. There are tables and chairs for viewers to stop and enjoy a cup of coffee. The object of the program is to "look at the traffic capacity needs for both blocks and the opportunity spaces to create better pedestrian accommodations as well as seating and shade."
