3-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Woburn Family Pool

Authorities are investigating after a boy drowned in a family swimming pool in Woburn, Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon.

Woburn police said they responded to the Marlborough Road home at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a 911 call about a missing child.

Family members told police upon arrival that they had not seen the 3-year-old boy since 3:30 p.m.

Police conducted a search and found the boy in the home's backyard swimming pool, which was uncovered and partially filled with dirty water and leaves.

The boy was unresponsive when he was taken out of the pool and he was rushed by ambulance to Lahey Hospital in Burlington in life-threatening condition.

The 3-year-old was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office indicates the child had been in the pool for an extended period of time.

A Department of Children and Families spokesperson called it a "tragic situation."

No foul play is suspected, and the DA will not be releasing the boy's identity because of his age.

The incident remains under investigation by the Woburn Police Department, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and DCF.
