A New Hampshire man who was shot by police Wednesday afternoon in Auburn, Massachusetts, has died, according to the Worcester District Attorney's office.

Authorities said Joseph Loughery, 59, of Dublin, was shot by police after he ignored repeated commands by officers to disarm.

Loughery had been approached by officers at about 1:15 p.m. while he was sitting in a red pickup truck in the parking area of a Shell gas station on Southbridge Street.

Authorities said Loughery was holding a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle and moving his arms while officers shouted for him to disarm.

The incident was recorded by witness Dean Ghanoum on his cell phone. Ghanoum said police unloaded several shots at Loughery.

"All I heard was the cop yelling, 'drop your gun, drop your gun,'" Ghanoum recalled.

No officers were hurt in the confrontation.

The district attorney said a relative of Loughery had called police in Dublin at about 11 a.m. requesting a welfare check. Police were able to track his truck to Auburn.
