Police: Man Who Injured Officers in OUI Crash Left License Plate Behind

Daniel Fournier was arrested and injured Worcester, Mass. officers were transported to UMass Medical Center

A man was in court Tuesday, accused of driving drunk and striking a cruiser, injuring two police officers, before driving home and going to bed Sunday night.

Police in Worcester, Massachusetts, say that 29-year-old Daniel Fournier left his Nissan Murano's front bumper, which had his license plate attached to it, behind when he left the scene of the crash near 239 Heard Street.

"[The crash] spun the cruiser in a complete 360, and the force of the impact snapped the rear wheel off the axle," said Worcester Police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst.

The officers in the cruiser suffered leg, neck, back and chest injuries. They were treated and released from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

After police ran the license plate number, they went to Fournier's home at 80 Brantwood Road. In the driveway, they found the SUV, missing the bumper.

"Officers looked in the window of the vehicle and observed fresh blood on the console," said Hazelhurst. "They also went up by the front door area of that apartment and noticed more fresh blood."

Police called for an ambulance and entered the home, fearing that someone may be suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Fournier was found in his bed with his mouth cut, smelling like alcohol, according to police.

Officers arrested Fournier after a brief struggle. He is charged with OUI, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a crash with personal injury and negligent operation to endanger, as well as traffic violations.

A not guilty plea was entered for Fournier, who is due back in court on Oct. 28.
