MBTA Riders Take to Social Media to Vent About Icy Conditions on Commute

Tuesday morning's temps were in the single digits

Cold weather across New England is causing problems for many after last weekend's storm brought snow and sleet that has since turned to ice.

MBTA riders took to social media Tuesday morning as they commuted into the city, sharing photos of icy and crowded platforms, packed trains and snow piles blocking bus stops.

One video captured an MBTA Ride bus slipping on ice and snow as it tried to drive away from a curb.

The transit agency wasn't the only one to see issues Tuesday morning.

In Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, a sprinkler pipe burst happened at a multi-residential building on Colonial Avenue. Fourteen people have been displaced as a result, according to Boston fire officials.

Meanwhile, a water main broke in a Belmont, Massachusetts, neighborhood Tuesday morning, turning parts of Hittinger Street into an ice rink. Hittinger Street is closed between Brighton and Baker streets as crews try to repair the break.

Tuesday morning's lows were in the single digits around much of the region, and temperatures weren't expected to climb much higher than the upper 20s.
