Hundreds Turn Out for Comcast Cares Day 2019

Event in Lawrence helps 28 sites.

Today, hundreds of volunteers fanned out across the City of Lawrence in an effort to revitalize 28 different sites.

Comcast/NBCUniversal is partnering with Groundwork Lawrence for its 10th year as part of Comcast Cares Day.

The event here holds special meaning today as this community is still recovering from the Merrimack Valley gas explosions and fires.

Organizers say the projects - both large and small - planned for today not only help to improve the area, but increase the pride residents have in their neighborhoods and open space.

“Despite everything that’s happened to us we are still running business as usual and this is one of our business as usual events.. Doing everything from shoring up a fence at the farm to planting potatoes and onions, to cleaning and greening throughout the city, so we’ll be hitting lots of parks in our parks system, just doing a spring cleaning,” said Lesley Melendez, Groundwork Lawrence Deputy Director.

Our own chief meteorologist Matt Noyes will join Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera and other community leaders to kick off this event this morning from the Common, which started at 8 a.m.
